Who We Are

Much of rural England is extraordinarily attractive, economically buoyant and socially cohesive. But this general picture conceals real deprivation: often dispersed, sometimes remote and often at odds with policy measures generally developed with an urban focus.
We act as the advocate for England’s rural communities, as an expert advisor to government, and as a watchdog to ensure that government actions, policies and programmes recognise and respond effectively to rural needs.
Our role is to understand and explain rural England in the 21st century, working towards practical, creative solutions to key challenges.
As an organisation we plan to remain small but effective and highly influential. We have already developed strong links with communities, with national, regional and local agencies, and direct access to the highest levels of government. Our Chairman is also the Prime Minister’s Rural Advocate.
