Working for us
What's it like to work for CRC?
Some of our staff tell us what they think:
Audrey Roy - Programme Manager, Rural Services

I joined CRC four months ago but have known about it for much longer. I joined the organisation because I wanted to work somewhere that I could make a difference to the lives of rural people and actually see the benefit of what I do turning into something real.
I get a lot of satisfaction from knowing that what I do on a day to day basis can actually improve people’s lives. That sounds very grand but in reality it’s just about wanting to help and not getting bogged down in bureaucracy in order to do it
CRC is a refreshing and interesting place to work never boring or stuffy, but upbeat, enthusiastic, creative and full of energy. Two days are never the same, but every day I am constantly having to use all of my brain and I actually like getting out of bed in the morning because each day is so different!
My working environment is dynamic, lively and never boring and it’s small enough to feel like a family, (with lots of relatives you actually like). Working at CRC makes you want to be the best that you can be!
Amy Beddis - Rural Advocate Programme Officer

I have worked at CRC for 15 months and I began working as a policy officer in our Rural Services: Fair Access and Equitable Outcomes
team, and three months ago started a new role on our Rural Advocate programme.
My role involves working with Stuart Burgess, our chair and the Government's Rural Advocate. Each year, he makes at least eight official visits to people living and working in rural England. These visits are incorporated into our policy work so that the rural voice is heard. My role requires me to work across all our policy teams to organise these visits.
CRC has a flexible working environment and also offers great benefits, especially the holiday allowance.
Will Aston - Rural Financial Inclusion Champion

After seven years of working in London I decided it was time to escape the rat race and find somewhere with a great quality of life to set down some roots but whilst still being able to work on social policy.
This challenge was met by the CRC as it has given me the opportunity to work with central and local government on issues connected with rural needs, with a specific focus on people suffering from social and economic disadvantage. The added bonus is that I still get to travel to London and work with central Government through the organisation's Whitehall office.
I joined the CRC over a year ago as the senior Social Welfare Advisor but two months ago I was promoted to a new post, funded by DWP to promote financial inclusion in rural areas. My role allows me to get out and meet people delivering programmes on the ground but I also input into a number of strategic working groups to develop new policy options.
Everyone at CRC is encouraged to get involved and work as part of a team, but there is also the opportunity to develop your individual knowledge and expertise. I feel my contribution is both recognised and valued at the CRC. As a small organisation there are lots of opportunities to work on new issues and develop new skills. My colleagues are friendly and supportive and I enjoy having a beer with them now and then after work.
Our Administration Team
Our team consists of six members of staff from a variety of backgrounds including the MOD, retail and university graduates. We provide a “one stop shop” for the provision of services and support across the organisation.
This includes records management of all files and being the main contact point for all organisation enquiries such as Freedom of Information and Data Protection. We're also closely involved in policy team work, supporting tendering and contracts, providing conference & meeting assistance and answering ad hoc requests for research and collation of information.
As a small organisation, we get to know everyone and this helps when dealing with requests and providing support. The staff are friendly and helpful, the atmosphere is warm and inviting and there are lots of opportunities available for further training and development.
