This is the 11th of our regular reports to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs on the impacts of the credit crunch and recession on rural economies and communities. It covers up to the end of 2009 and looks at the impact of the recession on rural businesses.

Our joint event with the South West RDA was held on 9th November, in Taunton. Rural practitioners  gathered together, to discuss how rural communities can be supported and empowered to stimulate new economic activity and provide community based services ? especially important given the impact of the recession and future pressure on public budgets. They also examined ways of empowering rural communities to tackle environmental and economic shocks. The was the last of four summits...
