According to the Plunkett Foundation, increasing numbers of rural communities are looking into setting up community-owned rural shops to help address rural shop closures.

They've seen a a trebling of inquiries over recent months about their Village CORE Programme, which provides start-up funding fo community-owned shops.

The Plunkett Foundation supports rural communities wanting to set up and run a community-owned shop, providing practical assistance through a network of community retail advisors, their website, a national office and various supporting publications.
