NALC's new Leadership Academy to help build the skills of Parish and Town Council leaders

3:07pm Thursday, 25th June 2009

NALC have been one of our key partners on a number of recent projects to help strengthen the role of local councillors.

They've now set up a Leadership Academy to help Mayors, Chairs and Councillors to:

  • increase their knowledge of personal and organisation leadership theory

  • develop their understanding of how these can be applied to their work as Parish or Town Councillors

  • enable them to develop skills in action planning for their communities

  • broaden their perspective of the sector's role in the wider government empowerment and democracy agendas

  • encourage networking with other like minded leaders across the sector, learning lessons and sharing best practice

The Leadership Academy has been set up following a successful pilot in 2008 and is the only national course of its kind aimed specifically at Parish and Town (local) Councillors, Chairs and Mayors.
