We're pleased to announce that we'll again be sponsoring the UK's only conference on rural entrepreneurship. The 7th Rural Entrepreneurship Conference will be hosted by the University of Cumbria in May 2009.

The event's core theme is 'Rural Enterprise in a Recession. The conference committee are calling for papers on this main theme and a number of sub-themes:

  1. Rural Entrepreneurship, Innovation and e-business

  2. Business incubation and nurturing rural entrepreneurs, including social and female entrepreneurship

  3. Shaping the policy agenda including rural communities and social enterprise

  4. Entrepreneurship in the rural environment, including land-based, tourism, manufacturing, public and service sectors

  5. Encouraging and motivating entrepreneurs

The Rural Entrepreneurship events were created and are managed by the University of the West of Scotland. The 7th conference is the second occasion it will be held in England, following the 2006 conference at the University of Lincoln.

The conference theme reflects the work we're currently undertaking. We're reporting to the Secretary of State on how the recession is impacting on rural businesses, employment and households, and help enable the rural voice and needs to be put to the National Economic Council.
