Make your voice heard in Post Office consultation

We're urging communities to make their voices heard in the consultation on the future of Post Offices. Starting today, Post Office Ltd are beginning a UK-wide, local consultation process.

Post Offices play a crucially important role in the economic and social fabric of rural areas. Earlier this year we responded to the Government's consultation on the future of the Post Office network.

While we believe the 6 week period for local consultation is too short, we urge rural communities to take this opportunity to make their views known and try to inform the consultation to the best advantage for their local community.

When there are possibilities to consider alternative ways of providing service as part of the consultation, we hope rural communities will make the most of the opportunity to come forward with practical and creative solutions.

Of the 14,500 Post Office branches across the UK, around 8,000 are in rural areas. Over 3/4 of Post Offices in rural England have an attached business, with almost a half attached to a village shop.

I believe the pre-consultation process has already (over a 12 week period) taken place. Where is it possible to:
a) view the Area Plan
b) identify the local stakeholders that engaged in pre-consultation process, and
c) the results of the pre-consultation process.

I am also looking for suggestions how to organise for the 6 week local public consultation.

The specific information is:
Parliamentary Constituency=Ludlow
local public consultation is scheduled to start date=March-08
name of the Area Plan=Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Many Thanks

Hello PO Consult! Why cannot POs be colocated with pubs especially in rural areas/ I have seen it in France and Italy. Breweries have many failing pubs and are looking for wider ways of income earning. Has it got potential? geoff rowe

Thanks for your suggestion Geoff.

Co-locating post office services, in pubs, village shops, or even churches, is one way that communities can retain these services locally.Pub is the Hub's website has some examples of how pubs have been used to provide different servioces to their communities.
