Housing in Rural Areas

Responding to CLG's Consultation on Housing and Planning Delivery Grant allocation for years 2 & 3

We welcome the Housing and Planning Delivery Grant (HPDG) to incentivise local authorities to improve delivery of housing and other planning outcomes as part of their strategic, place shaping role and to provide more support to communities and local councils who are endeavouring to deliver new homes.

Six million people live and work in rural England. Rural areas display a huge diversity of economic activity, over and above agriculture or forestry, with employers and employees often attracted by a better working and living environment.

Economic growth and economic well-being , and a statutory planning duty to deliver sustainable development require, now more than ever, an integrated approach to development. One that dovetails the delivery of much needed rural housing as well as better quality jobs, services in rural areas.
