This paper is based on the work and experience of the Director of Public Health in Cambridgeshire – a Primary Care Trust which includes one urban district, three Districts classed as rural accessible, and one area (Fenland), classed as rural inaccessible.

The overall objective of this project was to gain insight into the views on health services of people in rural communities. This included identifying any barriers to accessing and using services and any issues impacting on the provision of services, as well as any local initiatives that help service users and providers to overcome these barriers.
