Rural Insights

A rural village

Overview

To complement and support the work of the Rural Advocate and our independent watchdog responsibilities, we have brought together survey-based information on the perceptions and priorities of rural people.

These findings are summarised in our Rural Insights reports which present detailed information on the views of people in the different types of rural settlements - in the towns, villages, hamlets and across the sparse and the less sparse areas of England.

Today we published the results of our Rural Insights survey which took place during late 2009. The Rural Insights survey was commissioned to directly enable a comparison of how people’s views have changed since our 2006 survey and to better understand their priorities and views about where they live.

The 2009 Rural Insights deprivation report updates on the issues, hopes and aspirations that most concern rural people identified as experiencing deprivation, using group discussion research.

The 2006 Rural Insights report outlined people's views on how things are in their communities, on the changes they have experienced in recent years and on their immediate and longer term priorities.
