On 12 March 2008 the Chancellor delivered the 2008 Budget . This paper sets outs those tax announcements that have particular implications for individuals, communities and businesses within rural areas or are of significance to the UK as a whole.


It also includes a summary of the Stakeholders’ Workshop that took place on for 2 April 2008, which covered the following objectives:

  1. to explain the relevant tax, spend and regulatory measures in the 2008 Budget which impact rural areas

  2. to draw out, contrast and validate the various views on the issues and features underlying the scorecard and relevant 2008 Budget measures

  3. to identify alternative tax, spend and regulatory measures

  4. to identify the next steps and suitable material needed for CRC’s submission for 2008 Pre-Budget Report.
