In the Rural White Paper the Government made an important commitment to 'rural proof' its policies. Rural proofing means that as policy is developed and implemented, policy makers should systematically think about the impacts in rural areas and make adjustments to their initiatives if appropriate. The Countryside Agency was asked to report each year on how Government has performed against this commitment.

This is the second year report, detailing the progress made by the Government with its rural proofing commitment. It also contains detailed information on each department in appendices.
