This paper is based on the work and experience of the Director of Public Health in Cambridgeshire – a Primary Care Trust which includes one urban district, three Districts classed as rural accessible, and one area (Fenland), classed as rural inaccessible.

Fenland has historically had higher levels of socio-economic deprivation than other parts of Cambridgeshire, issues of access to health services, and poorer health outcomes.

The Rural Advocate visited Fenland earlier this year to talk to local people and service providers about health needs and health services in the area.
